First Floor: Residential Concerns
The first type of construction to consider is residential construction. These tasks usually involve building, remodelling, or repairing housing structures. Broadly speaking, a housing structure is anywhere you’d expect someone to live long-term, which includes homes, units, townhouses, and dormitories, but not projects such as hotels or skyscrapers. To further complicate matters, any external structures to a residential property, such as garages and storage sheds, are also generally considered to be residential projects.
Second Floor: Commercial And Institutional Interests
Moving up a level, the next category of construction is anything relating to commercial or institutional properties. This might be anything from retail stores, schools, shopping centres, or hospitals, and this is also where projects such as skyscrapers fall. Generally, you can expect either a private citizen or company will commission any commercial projects like retail stores, while your schools and hospitals will be paid for by local, state, or federal governments.
Third Floor: The Bureau of Specialised Industries
At this level, our construction projects are starting to become highly specialised, and there is a need for a much greater effort when it comes to the planning and execution of these jobs. A job of this type is usually paid for by a for-profit or industrial corporation, who will need access to highly specialised and locally-sourced resources, for whatever reason. For instance, a corporation that specialises in the supply of chemicals may want an oil refinery built, whereas a power company will want power plants. Jobs such as these fall into this category.
Fourth Floor: Final Floor For Infrastructure And Heavy Projects
Finally, we have a wealth of jobs that centre on upgrading infrastructure and undertaking any heavy construction jobs that don’t fall into any of the other categories. This can be anything from upgrading roads to improving railways, and the nature of these jobs means the category also encompasses any work that involves digging large tunnels or drainage systems. Usually, these jobs are done with the best interests of the public in mind, and will be paid for by the government or extremely large, extremely regulated private companies.
